The SSOL has been performing hydraulic modeling and testing since the 1970s and more recently added water quality monitoring and analysis services. With the formation of the Water Dynamics Laboratory (WDL) as a business unit of USURF in summer 2003, services were expanded to include numerical simulation of flow and contaminant transport, systems analysis, and practical and formal mathematical optimization of water management.
Expertise
Simulation model development, calibration, and application to predict aqueous and non-aqueous flow and transport
WDL excels in designing, calibrating, and applying numerical simulation models of fluid flow and contaminant transport in surface water, ground water, and the vadose zone. WDL can evaluate water system performance including tests for system vulnerability to natural calamity, malfunction and attack.
Optimization model development and application for developing optimal water management strategies
WDL has world renowned expertise in managing groundwater, surface water quality and quantity, vadose zone moisture and quality, and irrigation.
