FLOW COMPONENT AND CONTROL VALVE RESEARCH

Research and flow testing of control valves and flow elements have been conducted at the Utah Water Research Laboratory of Utah State University and the Hydromachinery Laboratory of Colorado State University.  Many different types of control valves, pipe fittings, and conduits in the size range from ½-inch to 48-inches have been tested.

In addition to reports and technical papers, one of the outcomes of the research is the participation with standards committees and technical conferences for the Instrument Society of America, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc., American Water Works Association, American Society of Civil Engineers (Task Force on Control Valves), Nuclear Industry Check Valve Group, ASME (Pressure Vessel and Piping), International Hydraulics Research Association, and Energy Producers Research Institution.
Research topics include:  Flow Performance,  Hydrostatic Testing, Pressure Loss, Seat Leakage, Wear and Cycle Testing, Transient Analysis, Cavitation, Flashing, Dynamic Flow Torque, Upstream and Downstream Piping Effects, and Reverse Testing of Check Valves.
A partial list of pipe components and flow elements tested include: Steel Pipe, PVC Pipe, Copper and Plastic Pipe, Pipe Tees, Elbows, Reducers, And Expansions (Malleable Iron, Weld-In, Copper, Brass, And PVC), Wet And Dry Barrel Fire Hydrants, Pressure Relief Valves, Air Release Valves, Butterfly Valves, Ball Valves, Gate Valves, Angle Valves, Resilient Seated Valves, Eccentric Plug And Ball Valves, Stack Valves, Sleeve Valves, Mulit-Port Valves, MOV Valves, Swing Check Valves, Tilting Disc Check Valves, Dual-Fold Check Valves, Center Guided and Multi-Stage Check Valves, and Howell Bunger Valves.
