Homework: # 1

Due Aug. 29, 2008
  1. Work through the Matlab handout. (It is available on the web page.) You will need to turn in the results for all of the numbered examples and exercises.

  2. Show how to derive

    \begin{displaymath}\cos x = \frac{e^{jx} + e^{-jx}}{2}
\end{displaymath}

    and

    \begin{displaymath}\sin x = \frac{e^{jx} - e^{-jx}}{2j}
\end{displaymath}

    from the Euler identity.

  3. List at least ten examples of signals encountered in real life. Suggest some kind of engineering design that has been, or could be, applied to these signals.
