Research Facilities in the Lab include:
- Laser materials processing
- Materials joining processes
-
Mechanical testing
- Non-destructive evaluation (NDE)
- Metallography and structures of materials
- ANSYS, FLUENT, and Matlab on Linux clusters for scientific computing
- Gleeble physical
simulation - Our Gleeble 1500D testing
system has been used for research in phase transformation (heat
treatment) and processing of new materials (forging and rolling),
including processing of nano-scale materials. The Gleeble is also a
powerful testing machine for high temperature mechanical properties,
including hot tensile, thermal fatigue, thermal-mechanical fatigue,
creep-rupture, and hot ductility.
We also have access to the Optomec LENS machine and the Ultrasonic
Consolidation System by Solidica in the Manufacturing
Processes Lab, and SEM, TEM, and X-ray diffractometer on
campus.
