Dr. Yu received his PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Georgia Tech in 2002. He has developed a series of theories for composite structures, smart structures, heterogeneous materials, and multibody dynamics. He has developed three computer codes including VABS, VAPAS, and VAMUCH, which are being extensively used in government labs, large companies, and academia. He has authored over 100 refereed technical articles and received funding from Air Force Office for Scientific Research, National Science Foundation, Army Research Office, Department of Army, Boeing, Sikorsky, Groen Brothers Aviation, AeroVironment. His recent honors include USU Technology Entrepreneur of the Year, Georgia Tech Outstanding Young Engineering Alumni, Air Force Summer Faculty Fellowship, College of Engineering Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award (twice), MAE Outstanding Researcher of the Year Award (twice), ASEE Outstanding New Mechanics Educator Award, MAE Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, Sigma Xi Best PhD Thesis Award, and early promotion to Associate Professor with Tenure.
